50 years ago I moved from a small town to our capital city, became a student in Helsinki University of Technology (today Aalto University), attended with Kari the concerts of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra RSO and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra HKO and became infected by Mahler’s music. There is no cure for that disease, and fortunately there is no need for one. I learned that more research has been done and written about him than about any other composer, also that there were Mahler societies around the world, but not in Finland.

With a few Mahler admirers we considered it absolutely necessary to establish a Mahler society. Now, 20 years later I registered an internet address that would suit for a Mahler society. I remain dreaming of seeing it coming to fruition. While waiting for that – and you, my only reader, I plan to write . And of course, I would prefer to read yours. The first two sections are reserved for blog stories and more organized articles. The third section collects sources of information, literature references and links, and the fourth section is aimed to be a bit like a Society’s bulletin board for relevant concerts and other events – reminders for forthcoming events and also links to recordings of past concerts with Mahler music – local orchestras and some others as well.

There is an email address registered <admin@gustavmahler.fi>, but so far, nobody reads that. Hopefully soon I learn how to use that, perhaps even get some discussion board inserted on this site.
